Dr. Martin Sliwinski will give a research based colloquia titled :
“Cognition on the Go: The Opportunities and Challenges for Mobile Cognitive Health Research”
This talk will discuss how the use of mobile technology affords novel opportunities to mitigate temporal, geographic, and personnel constraints imposed by in-person cognitive testing procedures, and to improve temporal precision by increasing the frequency of repeated assessments. There are, however, technical and logistic barriers that impede widespread utilization of mobile cognitive assessments. He will describe efforts to overcome these barriers and recent research on validation and application of mobile cognitive tests embedded in ecological momentary assessment (EMA) measurement bursts.
Martin Sliwinski is the Gregory H. Wolf Professor in Healthy Aging and Human Development and Director of the Center of Healthy Aging at Penn State. He is a renowned expert in cognitive changes that accompany aging, and his work has significant implications for helping support adaptive aging. His talk will specifically discuss how the use of mobile technology affords novel opportunities to assess cognitive change in older adults. While there are potential substantial unique benefits to mobile assessments, there are also technical and logistic barriers that impede their widespread utilization. In this talk, he will describe efforts to overcome these barriers. By overcoming these barriers, mobile assessments may provide unique tools to help understand the dynamics of cognitive function in older adults and in implementing interventions to improve their well-being.
