Description:

Mothers of advanced maternal age (≥35 years old) have elevated risk for severe maternal morbidity, making continuous insurance coverage critical for the long-term health of this population. In this study, we examine whether Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansions are associated with maternal health outcomes and behaviors among women ages 18-49, with a focus on older mothers (≥35 yr.). The findings will contribute timely and policy-relevant knowledge about the role of insurance in affecting severe maternal morbidity, and how state-level Medicaid policies potentially can improve health among older mothers.
