CAPS Biography:

Over the course of my career, thus far, I have developed into a researcher with expertise in measurement and evaluation. I have worked both with objective measurement of human activity behavior (i.e., physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB) and sleep), more specifically in the use of pedometers and accelerometers, and measurement and evaluation of body composition. In my research, I have focused in four aspects related to PA measurement and two aspects related to body composition measurement. Related to the measurement of PA my focus has been on: (1) establishing validity and reliability evidence of human activity behavior measurement tools (i.e., questionnaires, pedometers, accelerometers), (2) determining how to use the measurement tools to obtain reliable and accurate information on behavior patterns, (3) the use of measurement tools as a motivation to promote healthier lifestyles, and (4) investigating the relationship between human activity behavior and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Related to body composition measurement my research has focused on: (1) validity of body composition measures and (2) the relationship of field measures to clinical measures of obesity. Overall, my research relates to the CAPS signature theme of health and well-being.
