CAPS Biography:

I am an economist whose work on older Americans has had two main foci, both within the CAPS theme of health and wellbeing.  In the first line of research, I have examined how retirement behavior — and the related changes in income, insurance, and activity — affect the health and mortality of older Americans.  In the second line of research, I have conducted studies aimed at understanding how retirement benefits and income affect the labor supply decisions of older workers, particularly in the public sector.  Combined, these studies help provide a picture of how people are understanding and preparing for retirement and how policy can be designed to better support Americans as they reach retirement age.
