Curriculum VitaeCAPS Biography:
My research addresses the social determinants and policy drivers of population health and heath disparities, contributing to the Center for Aging and Policy Studies (CAPS) signature theme on health and well-being and speaking to all three cross-cutting themes of policy, place, and specific populations. The bulk of my research seeks to understand how policy levers may promote, or hinder, population health and health equity using econometric approaches and temporal and geographic variation in policy implementation to identify causal effects. In recent years, I have increasingly focused on how policy effects may differ across locations with varying social, demographic, and economic conditions. Programs and policies that I have focused on in this work include the Affordable Care Act, Earned Income Tax Credits, minimum wage policies, and immigration enforcement legislation. Another key focus of my prior work has been on disparities in infectious disease and vaccination. With the support of a recent CAPS Pilot Grant, I have launched a research project investigating how residential zoning laws in metropolitan area shape the health of aging populations.
