Curriculum VitaeBiography:
JoCarol Shields has a broad interest in neuromuscular physiology with a primary focus on neural control of movement. Her research investigates neural connections between the cortical, spinal, and peripheral systems and their subsequent effects on motor control. Through this work, she primarily focuses on targeting interventions to improve/restore motor function in older adults. These interventions include resistance training, cross-education, mirror activity, and other assessments. The overall goal of her work is to gain a better understanding of the mechanisms of functional loss and investigate potential counteractive outcomes to support translational research initiatives.
