CAPS Biography:
My training and expertise in the field of behavioral neuroscience aligning well to the CAPS theme of health and well-being. During my post-doctoral fellowship (NIH NRSA), I received extensive training in lifespan behavioral neuroscience from Dr. Carol Barnes, one of the leading researchers in neural mechanisms of learning, memory, and brain aging. My subsequent independent work, funded through state, federal agencies (NSF, NIH), and intramural programs, has focused on changes in neural processes mediating learning and memory under various hormonal states and across the transition to senescence in health and disease. A main guiding tenet is that learning and memory is managed by multiple neural systems each with its own sensitivity to modulation by hormones and to changes with advanced age. My most recent line of research, in collaboration with Dr. Paul Gold and supported by NIH (AG057947), converges research foci based on estrogenic, metabolic, and age-related regulation of learning and memory.
