Title: Counterconforming to Ableism: Defining and Measuring Disability
In Counterconforming to Ableism, Landes contends that disability is the body’s inherent counterconforming to ableist physical and/or mental normative standards of how it should be in the world. Doing so: 1) reclaims the disabled body as an active participant in the disability experience, inherently challenging ableist social norms; 2) provides a needed alternative to the problematic concept of disability pride; and 3) makes room for disability measurement to be more inclusive of the complexity and diversity of the disability experience.
